Customs intercepts 14 trucks of foreign rice, expired seasonings, others

Navy hands over 470 bags contraband rice, 7 suspected smugglers to Customs

In efforts to put an end to smuggling activities in the country, the Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) has seized several items that were smuggled into the country.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Uba Mohammed while addressing the newsmen on Tuesday, made it known that items such as 14 trucks of parboiled rice worth N89 million, expired food seasoning worth N458,109 and 336 cartons of alcoholic drinks worth N5m,175 bales of textile materials worth N2.2m were intercepted while they were being smuggled into Nigeria from Benin Republic.

“The intensified operation of the enforcement unit has drastically reduced smuggling activities to the barest minimum”, he said.

According to him, other items the command intercepted included; N269, 911 worth of vegetable oil, N444,785 worth of sugar, Premium Motor Spirit valued at N212,100 and N458,109 worth of expired food seasonings.
