Cyclist stabbed to death in N200 row

A Police prosecutor, Cpl. Abegunde Elijah told an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday how a security guard, stabbed a motor cyclist to death over N200.

According to him, the incident occurred on March 2nd at Tanke area, Ilorin, where an argument ensued between the defendants, Habila Hayanchi, 25, and the deceased, Mohammed Awwal over payment of a N200 fare.

In the ensuing fight, Hayanchi allegedly stabbed Awwal on the neck with a jack-knife, leading to his death.

He was charged with culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code, and Magistrate Mohammed Aluko
ordered that the accused be remand in Okekura Prison, Ilorin after he pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecution objected to his bail.

Elijah, argued that the offence committed by the accused was not ordinarily bail-able.

The Magistrate adjourned the case to March 22 for mention.
