The Super Falcons of Nigeria failed to advance to the next round of the Cyprus Women’s Cup after losing 1-0 to Belgium on Monday.

Elena Dohnt scored the winning goal for the Belgians in the seventh minute of the highly entertaining encounter.

The game was their third and final group C encounter, and having lost their opener against Austria and winning their second against Slovakia, the Falcons crashed out.

Thomas Dennerby’s ladies finished third spot in group C with three points from three group games.

The competition, which is meant to prepare the Super Falcons ahead of the 2019 FIFA World Cup, is a 12-team tourney, so the Nigerian ladies will now play in the 7th-place playoff.

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa, who are also representing Africa at this year’s World Cup, are participating in the competition.

They also crashed out on Monday after going down to a 2-1 defeat against Czech Republic.

Super Falcons will take on Thailand on the 6th of March in the battle for 7th place at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Cyprus.
