Dalung to meet NFF over Eagles defeat

Nigeria’s Sports minister, Barr. Solomon Dalung has summoned the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to a meeting on Tuesday.

This is following the humiliation of the national team on Saturday by the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Second half goals by Tokelo Rantie and Tosie Tau helped the visitors secure their very first win against Nigeria in a competitive international match, and leaving the Eagles at third position in the Afcon qualifying Group E.

According to the Media Adviser to the Minister, Nneka Anibeze, in a statement released on Sunday, the meeting would hold in the minister’s conference room.

“We need to sit with the technical committee to find out the immediate and remote causes of this setback (Super Eagles’ defeat to South Africa),” Dalung was quoted to have said in the statement.

“We have very young talented players in the Eagles and we trust that with more hard work and determination, this result can be reversed when we go to South Africa.”

Lybia is currently top of the group after thrashing Seychelles 5-1 on the opening day of the qualifiers, ahead of second-placed South Africa by goal difference.

Nigeria is currently third above Seychelles, both with no point.
