Olisa Metuh hospitalised

If things go as planned, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democaatic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, may be looking forward to being let off the hook, as a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has granted him leave to make a no-case submission against the evidence led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in his trial on charges of money laundering and fraud relating to N400m he allegedly received from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

With the no case submission, Metuh will be seeking to be discharged and acquitted of the charges against him, with the arguement that the evidence provided by the EFCC did not link him to the crime he was charged for.

Justice Okon Abang, granted Metuh leave for the no case submission on Thursday when the case resumed. Though Metuh was expected to open his defence and call witnesses when the case resumed, his counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), however informed the court that defence wanted to make a no case submission, asking the judge if he should go ahead and make an oral submission or put in a written address.

Justice Abang granted him leave to make his submission but ruled that it has to be made through filing of a written address.

The EFCC, also on Thursday, got the permission of the judge to amend charges one, two and seven against metuh, one week after closing its case.

Metuh and his company, Destra Investment Company are standing trial in connection with the $2.1 billion arms procurement money.
