Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the aegis of the Body of National Vice Chairmen of the PDP have distanced themselves from members of the party indicted in the $2.1 billion arms deal scandal for which former NSA, Sambo Dasuki is currently being prosecuted.

The group, who stated their support for the current fight against corruption in the land, insisted that the PDP is not a corrupt party, and that all corrupt elements had since found their way out of the party.

A number of PDP chieftains, including former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa and Chief Raymond Dokpesi, owner of Daar Communications are on trial for their alleged roles in the scandal.

While affirming that those members found guilty risk sanctions, the group in a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Abuja on Tuesday signed by the party’s Vice Chairman, Southsouth, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, said that if corruption is not eradicated the growth of Nigeria as a nation will remain stunted.

The group urged the President to also investigate some of his serving Ministers and associates that even more grievous allegations have been levied against.

The body expressed great concern over various allegations and charges against some PDP members that served in the immediate past government, saying that the party dissociates itself from any of its members so indicted.

It said “Any member so convicted shall also face intra-party disciplinary action and will be severely sanctioned accordingly.”
