Buhari appoints 27 RECs

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari is only witch-hunting perceived political enemies in his corruption fight.

The party challenged the president to prove otherwise by prosecuting his friend, Jafaru Isah who allegedly got money from ex- National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi –led National Working Committee of the PDP stated this in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye on Friday, adding that Buhari would only prove that his corruption fight is not biased if he could prosecute his friend Isah and others who have been fingered in corrupt practices.

Part of the statement read, “What has happened to Jafaru Isah, a political friend of President Buhari who was also accused of collecting money from the former National Security Adviser?

“None of these people are standing trial and none of them are in court for prosecution because they are members of the APC. We, therefore, further call on the APC-led administration to stop the persecution of political opponents in Nigeria for its false corruption chase.

“It is obvious today to all and sundry in Nigeria and in the Diaspora that those under trial by the court on corruption charges are the perceived enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari; his party, the APC; and political enemies and rivals of some APC leaders in the country.”

Adeyeye further challenged Buhari to prosecute the Ministers of Transportation and Science and Technology, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Ogbonaya Onu respectively, who have allegation of corruption levelled against them by two suspended Supreme Court judges, hanging on them.

Also to be prosecuted by President Buhari to prove his impartiality in the war against corruption according to PDP, is the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr. Ibrahim Magu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal, both of whom have allegations of corruption against them.

One of the Federal Government charge against Dasuki is his alleged diversion of $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms in the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

While many of the opposition PDP members fingered in the reception of that money are being prosecuted by the Federal Government, others who are said to be friends and part of the ruling government also fingered are yet to be arrested nor prosecuted.

PDP have made cogent point that should be looked into. President Buhari has not been fighting corruption but opposition parties. That’s why most politicians are running to APC to get cover

Buhari got some shares in that money, hope you remember. One wonders why he’s still keeping the man captive.

There’s no how Buhari will be fair in the fight against corruption, he was brought into power by a political party. This fight involves mostly the politicians, he will have to favour his people and use others as scapegoats. If we have a PDP member as our president, the same thing will happen, provided they decide to fight corruption.

That’s just it. No matter how buhari frown at corruption, he can’t bite the fingers that feed him.
