Death toll from Brazil dam collapse rises to 34, over 300 people declared missing

The death toll arising from a deadly dam collapse at an iron ore mine in southeast Brazil has risen from seven victims to 34.

Rescue officials also informed that the list of missing people has also increased from 200 to 300.

Reports say the dam which collapsed in Minas Gerais state, unleashed a wave of mud which destroyed houses and other valuable property.

According to the Minas Gerais state fire department, 23 people have been hospitalized after the dam released a torrent of mud on Friday.

“Unfortunately, at this point, the chances of finding survivors are minimal. We’re likely to just be recovering bodies,” Romeu Zema, governor of Minas Gerais, told local media.
