Death toll from Iran's anti-govt protests rises to 15

The death toll arising from a wave of anti-government rallies that began last week in Iran has risen to 15 authorities say.

According to Iranian state media,14 people and one policeman have been killed after five days of protests in different cities across the country which may not abate anytime soon.

Unconfirmed reports also suggests that armed protesters” who tried to take over police stations and military bases were repelled by security operatives who have arrested 400 protesters.

President Hassan Rouhani of Iran who spoke for the first time after the outbreak of protests over rising costs of food and fuel prices said people in the country have the right to protest but warned that violent anti-government demonstrations are unacceptable.

Iranian authorities have also blocked access to Instagram and Telegram social media Apps in the country after a video of two dead demonstrators who passed away after sustaining gunshot wounds fired by anti-riot police went viral.

Reports say authorities in Iran imposed the ban as a security measure during rare anti-government protests over rising cost of food and fuel prices which has gone violent.
