Death toll from UK Parliament attack rises to 5

The death toll arising from an attack outside the UK Parliament which saw a knife-wielding man shot dead by cops outside the UK Parliament after he stabbed a police officer in terror attacks has risen to five.

Police sources say five people, including the attacker, were killed after the assailant ploughed a car into pedestrians and went on a stabbing spree before being shot dead just metres away from the British Parliament.

London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said investigators suspect the attacker had been “inspired by international terrorism”.

“Islamist-related terrorism is our assumption,” Rowley told reporters.

He also informed that 40 others were wounded in Wednesday’s attack that caused chaos in one of the city’s busiest locations.

Recounting the incident, witnesses say the attacker driving a grey 4×4 mowed over 10 pedestrians on Westminster Bridge causing severe injuries to the victims even as two other victims were seen lying within Old Palace Yard, immediately outside Westminster Hall.

He later ran out of his grey vehicle and went on a stabbing spree severely wounding a cop before he was shot dead.

Significantly, it is worthy of note that this incident coincides with the one year anniversary of the deadly Brussels airport attack which claimed the lives of 32 people and injured 300 others.
