Decomposing corpse of kidnapped DPO found after 12 days

About 12 days after the DPO in charge of C’ Division in Asaba, the Delta state capital, Valentine Mbalu, was kidnapped, his decomposing body has been found in a forest in the state.

Tension had been on the high after the abduction of the DPO especially with the fact that his kidnappers had been mum over their demand for ransom which many found disturbing.

According to reports, the kidnappers later made contact with the family of the DPO and it was agreed that N5 million be paid as ransom but after the ransom was made ready, the communication line between the kidnappers and family members of the DPO reportedly went dead.

A police source that pleaded anonymity, said the decomposing corpse of the DPO was found in Umunede forest on Friday even as his death has led to mourning among police officers in the command.

Andrew Aniamaka, the police public relations officer, who confirmed the DPO’s death said investigations into his death are still on-going and also informed that one of the suspects in the police officer’s kidnap, has been arrested.
