DEFECTION: Gov Ortom still undecided

It seems Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is still undecided over his move from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As controversies over his continued stay in the rage on, the governor has said that his political future totally rest in the hands of the people of Benue State.

Ortom had on Monday announced that he had been given “red card” by the leader of the party in the state, a statement that was interpreted by many that the governor has dumped the ruling APC.

Subsequently, he was called for a meeting by the APC leadership along some of the leaders of the party in Benue State.

Ortom was again said to have changed his mind to dump the APC following the meeting he had with the party’s leadership led by it’s national chairman,, Adams Oshiomhole.

However Ortom, clarifying the controversial issue when he spoke with newsmen on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital, said that his statement on Monday after meeting with the national leadership of the APC was misrepresented.

“I was very clear when I spoke on Monday but it was misinterpreted. I met with the leadership of the APC at the national level, and what I said is that the discussion is ongoing because no decision has been taken.

“Despite all the things happening now, at the end of the day, it is what the Benue people tell me that I will do,” he said.

The governor said he was now waiting for the verdict of the party’s leaders on the happenings in the state chapter of the party having honoured their invitation and explained what transpired in the state to them.
