Defiant Trump vows to stay in Presidential race despite calls to quit
Republican nominee Donald Trump has vowed to stay on in the race to become the next President of the United States of America despite calls from more than two dozen of Republicans for him to step down following his lewd remarks about women which surfaced days ago.
Both Trump’s wife and his running mate criticized his words, saying they were insulting and indefensible.
“The media and establishment want me out of the race so badly – I WILL NEVER DROP OUT OF THE RACE, WILL NEVER LET MY SUPPORTERS DOWN!” Trump wrote on Saturdayafternoon on the social media website Twitter.
Trump’s comments on Twitter is coming after his running mate Mike Pence declared that he could not condone and defend Trump’s inappropriate comments .
Pence said: “As a husband and a father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the 11-year-old video released yesterday. I am grateful that he has expressed remorse and apologised to the American people.”
Trump’s wife, Melania, also weighed in on the controversy saying her husband’s remarks were “unacceptable and offensive”, but added that she had accepted his apology. She also appealed to voters to accept Trump’s apology.
