Festus Keyamo (SAN) has revealed that the Delta state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was formed in his house in Effurun.

He made this comment while he was being screened on Friday as a ministerial nominee by members of the Senate in Abuja.

Keyamo, who served as the spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential campaign organization, is the 28th nominee that has so far been screened by the senate.

During his introductory speech, Keyamo who is also an APC chieftain, said the chapter of the party in Delta State was formed in his house in Effurun.

“The first major meeting held in Delta State, involving the national leaders that came, because we didn’t have a government, it is a PDP state and we didn’t have a government; that meeting was held in my house in Effurun, in my parlour,” he said.

“So, I can say APC was formed in my house in Delta State. It is not a surprise that I’m standing here today as a nominee of the APC for Delta State.”

Keyamo explained that he joined politics because of the need to be part of the group that would fix the numerous challenges facing the nation.

While fielding questions from the senators, he said: “If I am AGF, I have the idea I call the three Ds that will be at the heart of judicial reforms: decongestion of supreme court, decongestion of prisons and decongestion of cases lists in courts which relates to speedy trial.

“My first task will be to unbundle the Supreme Court; it is the busiest in the world and that is not acceptable. Some of the cases that go there are frivolous. This country is big enough to have six regional courts.”

Keyamo continues: “Every police station should open itself to the nearest magistrate courts for inspection; same with the DPOs. But they are not complying with those provisions of the Administration of criminal justice act.”

“Magistrates should be given the powers to grant bail even in matters involving murder when there is no evidence at the early stage,” says Keyamo

During the screening, the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye, had asked the senatorial nominee to recite the second stanza of the National Anthem. President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, however, overruled Melaye’s request.
