The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a mother, Eunice Asuelie, for allegedly using her 15-year-old daughter for sex trafficking.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest of Asuelie in a statement on Saturday, said the woman was alleged to have forced her daughter to a suspected sex trafficker at a hotel in Udu Local Government Area of the state.

“I can confirm that the mother is in detention at the police headquarters and the police are investigating the whole matter,” he said.

Edafe added that the incident was brought to public light by a human rights activist, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, who reported the matter to the police.

While speaking with journalists, Aghogho said the victim managed to escape from the sex trafficker and sought refuge with her classmate’s family in Effurun.

“The young girl has since been released to the care of the proprietress of Triumphal Model School in Effurun, Magareth Oghuvwu.

“We were at the Anti-Trafficking Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, Delta State Police Headquarters on Friday for interview.

“I was among those interviewed by the police. This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria, with many victims lured into exploitation through false promises of employment or a better life,” Aghogho narrated.
