DELTA: Tension as youths set up bonfire over hijack of voting materials, ward chair stabbed

Like in many other states across the federation, there is heightened tension in Delta State following the ugly happenings in this Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

At the home town of a former governor of the state, James Ibori, the youths are protesting and making bonfire over alleged hijack of voting materials in the town.

While voting held in parts of the town, the protesting youths claimed that voting materials meant for some polling units in Oghara town, was diverted by chieftains of a political party in the area.

Meanwhile, ward chairman of one of the rival political parties in Oleh Ward 1, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Vincent Egbogbo, is said to have been stabbed by suspected political thugs.

He was allegedly stabbed at Oleh Ward 1, Unit 7 in Egide Street, Oleh.

It was learnt that a group of thugs were driving from one polling unit to another threatening voters that those that will not vote for their party should leave the polling center.

The chairman was said to have angered the thugs and got stabbed by them when he asked them to stop intimidating voters.

Egbogbo is said to be receiving treatment in a hospital in the area.
