DELTA: Youths beat up soldiers for allegedly killing man who flouted lock-down order

Angry youths on Thursday attacked two soldiers in Delta State after solidiers killed a father of two for disobeying the lockdown of the state ordered by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

The incident took place in the Ugbuwangue, area of the state after Joseph Pessu, a father-of-two, was shot dead by a soldier at Ada Val Arenyenka street, along the Ugbuwangue axis of the NPA Expressway, Warri.

The killing of Pesu, who was reported to have ignored efforts by soldiers to flag him down while riding his power bike, took place at about 9:40am.

It would be recalled that a team of the state taskforce enforcing the lockdown was also attacked in Warri on Wednesday, with some of the officials beaten by youths in the city.

According to sources who witnessed the incident, the officers fired gunshots at Pessu’s bike tyres when he refused to stop but one officers shot at him.

His corpse was such to have been taken to the Police Area Command, Warri, after which angry youths in the area took to the streets in protest.

Though the chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi, intervened by appealing to the youths during their visit to the area, revealing that the officer responsible for shooting Pesu has been arrested, the youths went on to attack two soldiers who were beaten mercilessly.
