Deranged foreigner slices woman's throat in Lagos church

In what panned out like a scene from a horror movie, a foreigner identified as Laday Wendipanga, a national of Burkina Faso allegedly slit the throat of one Adepeju Disu at the Lagos Island premises of Holy Cross Cathedral while she was fast asleep.

Reports say an alarm was raised by a member of the church when the suspect was seen dragging the victim to a corner of the church premises while a vigil was ongoing.

Wendipanga was later arrested by police from the Lion Building Police Division who later removed the remains of the victim from the scene of the incident.

A witness who makes his living as a mechanic revealed that both suspect and the victim were mentally ill and Adepeju usually passed the night in the church.

“Both of them are mentally ill. They were being taken care of by the church. A vigil was going on that day when the incident happened. I learnt that she (Wendipanga) went to where the woman was sleeping on the church premises and slit her throat with a knife,” the witness said.

Another witnessed said, both the suspect and the victim earlier had an argument before the incident played out.

“I learnt she had a disagreement with the suspect earlier, but I don’t know what it was all about.”

Confirming the incident, SP Dolapo Badmos, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer also revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

“The information we have is that the victim, Adepeju Disu, and the suspect, Laday Wendipanga from Burkina Faso, lived around the church. They seem to be mentally ill. Investigation will reveal more on that, especially on the side of the suspect. We need to do medical evaluation. The body was seen on the church premises. The case has been transferred to SCIID, Yaba, for discreet investigation.” The Lagos PPRO said.
