‘Deserter’ charge collapses as police commission validates Misau’s retirement letter

Senator Isah Misau has won a major victory in his long-drawn battle with Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, as the Police Service Commission (PSC) has affirmed that his retirement was fully in conformity with due process.

Spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, Wednesday, said Misau followed due process in retiring from the police.

The police had declared Misau a deserter who carried forged retirement documents around, shortly after he accused the IGP of serious acts of corruption.

The deserter allegation was made public by Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer, who accused the senator of forging his retirement letter from the police.

Ani told newsmen that following a process of confirmation, the senator’s retirement letter was determined authentic.

He stated that the retirement letter with Ref. No: PSC 1034 Vol.8/244 was issued on March 4, 2014, but took effect from December 1, 2010.

The spokesman confirmed that it was issued by the commission based on a recommendation from the Force Headquarters.
