A statement released by the family of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the South African anti-apartheid hero has revealed that he has successfully gone through a surgery.

The statement revealed that the surgery to treat recurring infections that have afflicted the 84-year-old for more than a year went well.

“Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s surgery this afternoon was successful and he was in good spirits,” the brief family statement said.

Recall that the 84-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Anglican archbishop of Cape Town was also hospitalised last year for treatment of an “inflammation”.
