Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has cautioned his team to “stay humble” after they came from behind to defeat Argentina 4-2 in a friendly game on Tuesday.

The victory, earned at the Krasnodar Arena Stadium in Russia, has bolstered the team’s confidence as they kick off preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

64-year-old Rohr, whose 3-5-2 formation against the South American giants appeared to work out fine, praised his boys for their “great team spirit” and strong determination during the game.

“I am happy we came back from 2 goals down to win 4-2. It shows we have great team spirit and determination when you keep fighting after going two goals down against a great team like Argentina,” Rohr was quoted to have said by Super Eagles official Twitter handle.

But he went on to add that although the victory was good, the team must remain humble as they had more work to do ahead of the World Cup finals next summer.

“We prepared well for this game because playing Argentina is big for us, maybe it is different for them.

“It is good victory for us but it doesn’t mean we’ve become favorites to win the World Cup. We stay humble & realize we have more work to do,” he stated.

Speaking after the game also, Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi spoke on why the team had a shaky start and how the coach boosted their confidence at halftime.

“We played a new system today we never played before so we struggled to find our feet in the first half but at the break, the coach spoke to us and we corrected our mistakes which helped us to fight back.

“Our team is still work in progress,” he said.

Nigeria’s senior team have played Argentina eight times since 1994 and Tuesday’s victory is only the second time the Eagles are coming out on top.
