Court unseats Anambra APC chairman

Despite growing calls for the immediate resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the Imo State chapter of the party has passed a vote of confidence on Adams Oshiomhole.

The endorsement was made by a member of the National Working Committee of the party in the State, Marcellinus Nlemigbo, who said removing Oshiomhole would lead to serious crisis within the party.

Nlemigbo, while address newsmen on Sunday in Owerri, the state capital described the call as “unpatriotic and in bad faith.”

He appealed to party members in the state to stand against any plan to destroy APC both at the state and federal levels.

According to Nlemigbo: “We, the APC in Imo State, have declared our total and unalloyed support for the national chairman of our party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

“We have absolute confidence in his leadership, which led the party to a historic victory in this year’s presidential elections

“Therefore, we see the call by the deputy national chairman (North), Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, for the national chairman to resign as unpatriotic and in bad faith.

“Anybody canvassing the removal of Oshiomhole does not have the interest of APC at heart because such an ill-advised move will definitely precipitate a big crisis in the party,” he added.

The vote of confidence passed on Oshiomhole comes after the immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun , had said his successor lacked capacity to manage a political party.

He was reacting to the allegation by the South-South APC chairmen, that he laid landmines for the Oshiomhole-led national executive.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Public Affairs Adviser, Chief Ray Morphy, Oyegun described it as “ludicrous and infantile and an attempt to dream up justification for the failings of the party under Oshiomhole chairmanship”.

“That statement of Booby Traps is ludicrous and infantile and an attempt to dream up justification for the failings of the party under Oshiomhole Chairmanship,” he said.

Oyegun also stated that the crisis in the states, arose out of sheer incapacity on Oshimhole’s part.

“He engages his mouth before engaging his mind, so he offends party members, so how does that constitute booby traps by Oyegun, the erstwhile chairman?,” the statement added.
