Despite denial, Obiano’s aide begins South-East campaign for Buhari’s re-election

Gov Obiano in trouble with APGA for endorsing Buhari

A Senior Special Assistant on Event Management to the Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, Chido Obidiegwu, has begun championing President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election campaign in the state.

He has set up a movement tagged “One-on-one Nigeria,” to ensure he reached out to as many people as possible in the state on one on one basis to ensure the people vote for Buhari’s second time emergence as president.

Obidiegwu made this known at a briefing on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in Awka, Anambra State.

The move is coming inspite the fact that a former governor of the state, Peter Obi, is a vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that Igbo leaders had since endorsed.

There were recent reports that Obiano had voiced his support for President Buhari’s reelection, even though his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is also fielding a presidential candidate for the 2019 elections.

But Obidiegwu, who was accompanied to the briefing by a former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) presidential aspirant, George Okoye, said his campaign for Buhari was in the interest of the Igbo.

He said, “One-on-one Nigeria’ is an independent network of Ndigbo determined to achieve Igbo Presidency by returning President Buhari for a second term.

“This we do through a massive awareness to convince Ndigbo that four years of President Buhari is better than eight years of any other person for us to achieve this dream via a project tagged 4 is better than 8.”

Obidiegwu, who recalled the travails of the Igbo since the end of the Nigerian civil war, said the Igbo were not ready to play the opposition anymore in the country’s polity.

When asked if his campaign for Buhari was not an anti-party activity since APGA fielded a presidential candidate, Gen John Gbor (retd.), Obidiegwu argued that his movement had nothing to do with political parties.

“Our resolve is driven by President Buhari’s past, his values, orientation and disposition. Buhari began serious work on the long-abandoned Second Niger Bridge, the long abandoned Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, the Zik Mausoleum, Ariaria Aba Independent Power Project.

“These, among other projects the Igbo yearned for over 16 years, could only be realised under President Muhammadu Buhari. We in One-on-One Nigeria are resolute and unequivocal in our support for this 2nd tenure,” he added.

There have been speculations that Governor Obiano may even work for Buhari to ensure he pays pack his predecessor in his own coin.

Recall that Obi had worked fiercely against the second term bid of Governor Obiano over a rift that has continued to exist between the two for a very long time now.
