Despite probe for alleged corruption, Justices Ademola, Dimgba resume court sittings

Justices Adeniyi Ademola and Nnamdi Dimgba are said to have returned to court on Monday after the National Judicial Council (NJC) described their apartment raid as illegal.

Ademola and Dimgba, it was learnt presided over court sessions for cases scheduled to continue on Monday by their various courts.

The two Abuja Federal High Court judges were among judges whose homes were raided by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) for alleged corruption. While Mr Ademola and six other judges were arrested, Mr Dimgba only had his home raided.

The DSS had claimed that the arrest of the seven judges across the nation were sequel to petitions bothering on allegations of fraud which were tabled against them but were neglected by the NJC.

The agency which said it had enough evidence to prosecute the judges for corruption, had claimed it recovered tens of thousands of dollars and millions of naira from Mr Ademola’s residence.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also on Monday despite opposition from the NJC over alleged corruption of some judges, grilled two judges accused of corruptly enriching themselves in the course of their duty.

The commission summoned the two Federal High Court judges, Mohammed Nasir Yunusa and Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa, to their Lagos office where EFCC top operatives quizzed them.

It was learnt that their invitation was as a result of bribery and money laundering allegations the commission discovered during investigations in an ongoing case in which two senior lawyers have already been arraigned in court.

According to a detective of the anti-graft agency, the commission’s subsequent investigation revealed that the two judges allegedly received sums of money from two Senior Advocates of Nigerian (SANs), Rickey Tarfa and Joseph Nwobike, who EFCC on March 9, 2016 arraigned before a Lagos High Court on allegations of offering gratification to a public official.
