Despite proposed threat of sanctions, N'Korea fires another ballistic missile

Defiant North Korea led by headstrong leader Kim Jong Un has continued to show its increasing threat to Asia and the world at large after it fired another ballistic missile into the sea of Japan.

According to South Korea’s military in a statement, the North fired the “unidentified ballistic missile” at around 00:40 GMT from a site near its western region of Banghyon in North Pyongan province and flew about 930 kilometres before coming down in the Sea of Japan.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters the missile flew for 40 minutes – an unusually long flight time.

“This launch of a ballistic missile can never be tolerated, and Japan strongly protested to North Korea and condemned it,” he told a briefing.

Reacting to the missile launch, the US military’s Pacific Command said in a statement that North Korea had launched a land-based intermediate range ballistic missile.

“The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) assessed that the missile launch from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America,” it said in a statement.

The latest missile launch by North Korea is expected to dominate talks by world leaders at the G20 summit holding in Hamburg, Germany between July 7 to 8 as they will likely discuss measures to apply stiffer sanctions against Pyongyang over its continued missile tests.
