DETENTION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS: FG summons Turkish ambassador

Worried by the continued detention of Nigerian student studying in Turkey by the Turkish Government, the Federal Government has summoned the country’s ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil.

The students, about 50 in number were detained on allegations of having links to the coup plotters who attempted to overthrow the government in June.

It would be recalled that there has been popular outcry over the detention of the students who are studying in the country, with the House of Representatives handing down a 7 day ultimatum for their release on Wednesday.

The summon was disclosed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, in a tweet on his Twitter handle on his Twitter handle on Thursday.

“Turkish Amb. H. Cakil Summoned: Nigerian Students Release Demanded,” he wrote.
