Coup plot claims, only in 'warped mind of militants', Nigerian Army says

The Nigerian Army has called on Avengers and other militant groups in Niger Delta to embrace peace or it will use force on them.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, who said this also appealed to the militants to pursue their demands in democratic means and avoid the use of violence.

Buratai stated this in Port Harcourt on Monday at the commissioning of a modern 2 Brigade headquarter complex with an Olympic size swimming pool.

He said, “Government is still committed to dialogue and whereby this cannot go on, then there could be resort to other means. The non-kinetic (force) means has always been the source first before government can recourse to the kinetic means.

“So, there is need for the Niger Delta Avengers to see reason and dialogue with government.”

Buratai, was represented at the event by the General Officer Commanding 82 Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.

Meanwhile, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), who owned up to having negotiation with the Federal Government, said that the dialogue with government does not involve criminals like Avengers and other militants of their likes.
