Ngilari, Adamawa ex-gov charged and remanded in EFCC custody

The EFCC on Thursday continued its investigation into the N23 billion election bribery money allegedly coordinated by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The agency quizzed a former Nigerian Ambassador to United States, Ambassador Hassan Adamu and former Acting Governor of Adamawa State, James Ngilari, over the N450 million given to Adamawa State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The name of Ambassador Adamu, who was grilled for hours and latter allowed to go home at the Gombe zonal office of the commission, came up while he was abroad.

The EFCC operatives had said Adamu’s name appeared as a co-signatory to the collection of the state’s share from officials of Fidelity Bank.

Though Adamu said he was a party to the collection of the money, he denied knowledge of how the money was eventually shared.

According to him, the sharing of the money was done at the Government House, Yola. He insisting that his involvement stopped at the level of collection from the bank, and that the money was taken to Government House in a bullion van by the officials of the bank.

The former Ambassador also disclosed that the Chief of Staff to Mr. Ngilari, Alhaji Hamman, and Accountant to Government House, Mrs. Aisha Waziri, counted the money and confirmed the figure, from where they became custodians of the fund, based on the directive of their boss, the governor.

However, during his interrogation, Ngilari, denied authorizing his former aides to take custody of the fund.

Not satisfied with his explanation, the EFCC decided to keep Ngilari in their custody, as his detention order was signed.
