N450M FRAUD: Diezani wants to testify in Nigerian court

An Abuja Federal High Court on Wednesday struck out a count in Jide Omokore’s $1.6 billion crude oil fraud charges due to the appearance of the name of the former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke in the matter.

A nine-count charge of alleged $1.6 billion crude oil fraud was instituted against a businessman and Diezani’ ally, Jide Omokore, and five others.

But the former minister prayed the court to strike out the count in the charges which indicted her. She had claimed in her application to the court that she was indicted on a particular count in the fraud charges but was never given the opportunity to defend herself.

Ruling on the application on Wednesday, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, obliged her prayer and struck out the eighth count in the charges which indicted Diezani in the case.

Aside Omokore, other defendants in the case are two of his companies, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.

Others are a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, Victor Briggs; a former Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Abiye Membere; and a former Manager, Planning and Commercial of the NNPC, David Mbanefo.
