The drama over the faceoff between Senators Oluremi Tinubu and Dino Melaye continued on Tuesday, as the Senator representing Lagos Central senatorial district has petitioned Senate President, Bukola Saraki, asking that he disciplines Senator Melaye.

She also said Melaye is a danger to her and the Senate if he is not disciplined.

In the same breath, Senator Tinubu also petitioned the National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, saying that her colleague, representing Kogi West, threatened to rape her.

It would be recalled that Tinubu, the wife of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had on Monday petitioned the Acting Inspector General of Police, asking for police protection against Melaye.

She also alleged in the petition to the IGP that Senator Melaye, had, while a member of the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011, beaten a colleague on the floor of the House, resulting in the death of the member.

In the 19th July letter to Saraki, Senator Tinubu asked the Senate President and the Senate to punish Melaye because he remains a danger to her and the senate at large, alleging that Senator Melaye has promised twice within one week to attack her.

Saying Senator Melaye has become what she called unmoored, she said he has since paraded his misconduct in public as if to threaten a female senator was a badge of pride.

”Unless Senator Melaye is appropriately disciplined, he remains a danger to me and to the Senate at large. He has
promised twice within one week to attack me.”

In her petition to the APC National Chairman, Senator Tinubu asked the party to as a matter of urgency intervene in the matter as a party with zero tolerance for gender discrimination and to restore its reputation as a vehicle of positive change and not an arm of regression and in tolerance towards women.

She said: “I am both a ranking Senator and a woman. But Senator Melaye took neither into consideration as he issued threats of rape and assault, while also boasting that he would face no consequence even if he fulfilled these criminal threats.”
