Dino Melaye loses as Appeal Court sacks him, orders fresh election

Again, Melaye cries out against the police

The Appeal Court has upheld the ruling of the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal which sacked the senator representing Kogi West at the National Assembly, Dino Melaye.

The appellate court while nullifying the election of Senator Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), also ordered the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections within 90 days from today (Friday) when the judgment was given.

Meanwhile, Melaye, on his twitter handle had confirmed the development, and implored his supporters across the nation not to be dismayed, saying he was confident in winning the election again.

His words: “I just lost my election at the Appeal Court and Fresh election ordered. In all things I give God the Praise. He who started a good thing will definitely complete it. I ask my supporters to be law abiding as we shall always overcome. To God be the Glory.”

Recall that the Kogi State National and State Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja had sacked Senator Melaye as the representative of Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The chairman of the tribunal A.O Chijoke, while delivering the judgement ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election for the district within 90 days.

Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 26 election had in a petition, challenged Dino Melaye over the senatorial election.
