Donald Trump tastes defeat in Iowa

Trump suggests forthcoming US election be cancelled

Mouthy billionaire estate tycoon turned politician, Donald Trump, was defeated by fire-brand conservative Senator Ted Cruz in Iowa as the first state votes to chose a Republican nominee for White House.

Reports say Trump’s lost due to his over reliance on national exposure while Cruz had an amazing ground operation ‎which proved to be the ace for him.

On the other hand, the Democratic side, which saw voting between former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and her socialist rival, Senator Bernie Sanders, was close to call, as it almost ended in a deadlock as some results remained outstanding.

Reports say the votes were so close between both aspirants as officials resorted to party rules by flipping coins in some precincts to determine how to award an extra county delegate which is a rare but long-standing procedure to break ties.

Hillary Clinton eventually won the coin toss deemed as a party rule when support for candidates is even but a precinct has an odd number of delegates to award.

If there is anything the recent results have shown, it is the fact that there’s a long, volatile election season ahead before the Democrats and the Republicans (two deeply fractured parties).
