Double! N'Golo Kante wins Football Writers' Player of the Year

After being crowned the PFA Player of the Year last month, Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante, has again been voted the Football Writers’ Player of the Year.

The Frenchman looks set to become the first player to win back-to-back Premier League titles with different clubs, having helped Chelsea move four points clear this season following his summer move from Leicester City.

“Congratulations to @nglkante, who has been voted the 2017 Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association!” Chelsea wrote via their Twitter handle on Monday.

Kante beat Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Eden Hazard to the PFA Player of the Year award at the end of last month, and has completed an impressive double by also taking home the FWA gong, which is football’s oldest individual award.

Kante, who also won the award last season, joins former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and ex-Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo in completing the double on two occasions.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard, who is Kante’s team mate at Chelsea, came second, while Tottenham’s Dele Alli, who took home the Young Player of the Year award last month, came third.

Kante said: “It is a fantastic honour to win this award. With so many great players in this Chelsea squad and in the Premier League, for the Football Writers’ Association to name me their Footballer of the Year is a very proud moment in my career.”
