DRC ELECTIONS: Opposition accuses authorities of trying to foist Kabila's preferred candidate

With less than 24-hours before the commencement of voting in Sunday’s presidential election, the opposition has accused authorities of trying to rig the vote in favour of outgoing President Joseph Kabila’s preferred candidate.

The opposition also went ahead to claim that the government is plan to use electronic voting machines to rig the election for Kabila’s anointed candidate Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary.

“If the results sheets don’t arrive on time then it means that the vote results will be transferred via the voting machine, and that is going to inflame suspicions of fraud,” said one of these diplomats, who has been in recent contact with CENI officials.

Outgoing President Joseph Kabila days ago insisted that the elections in his country will go ahead despite doubts over his plan to leave power.
