DSS nabs 5 suspects allegedly involved in senator Arise's abduction

Five suspects involved in the abduction of Senator Ayo Arise have been arrested by men of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The suspects were among 30 other notorious kidnap suspects arrested variously in Kogi, Edo, Benue and other states by the agency.

According to the DSS, the operations that fished out the criminals were undertaken between December 2017, and February 2018.

Mr. Tony Opuiyo of the DSS also disclosed in a statement that the operations resulted in the killing of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, who were said to have engaged operatives in a shootout.

“In furtherance of its commitment to ensure adequate security in the country, the Department of State Services (DSS) has sustained its counter-operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling in parts of the federation,” Opuiyo said.

He also added that: “These strategic operations carried out by the service from the end of last year to this period, February, 2018 led to the containment and neutralisation of the criminal elements.

“While the service pledges to consolidate on its successes, it wishes to reaffirm its commitment to the safety of all citizens and residents. It therefore calls on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security formations.”

Recall that the former Chairman of Senate Committee on Privatization, was freed from the den of kidnappers six days after he was abducted while on a journey from Akure to the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

Senator Arise who is eyeing the Ekiti State governorship position under the All Progressives Congress (APC) was released unhurt by his captors who reportedly dropped him at Ibillo town in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
