DSS, NIA ex-DGs must face the law, EFCC boss Magu insists

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has insisted that the former heads of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) must face the law.

He state that on the agency’s facebook page, that “OKE, EKPEYONG: The Law Must Take Its Course… As Nobody is above the Law”.

It would be recalled that operatives of the EFCC were engaged in near fisticuffs, in Abuja on Tuesday, with their counterparts from the DSS, and the NIA, when the EFCC attempted to arrest the former DGs of the two agencies.

EFCC and DSS operatives, had a major standoff on Tuesday, over purported moves to arrest the immediate-past Director-General of the Service, Mr Ekpeyong Ita at his Maitama residence.

In a similar move, NIA operatives halted EFCC operatives from arresting the sacked Director-General of the NIA, Mr Ayo Oke‎.

Lawmakers have also stepped in, as the Senate at plenary on Wednesday, said it will set up an adhoc committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the face-off. The committee is expected to report back within two weeks.

Reacting to the botched attempt to arrest the former heads of the security agencies, Magu was quoted as saying, “We are not discouraged at all. The law must take its course, nobody is above the law”.

He explained further that the agency does not just go for an arrest except cogent reasons to arrest an accused.

“There must be reasons, strong reasons before we go for an arrest. Never, Never, I am not discouraged at all. Rather, it energises me to do more and I am telling you, nobody is above the law,” Magu is quoted to have said.

I will only agree with Magu on one condition, the former President Goodluck Jonathan must also be probed, if he cannot probe him, then, he has no moral justification to say no one is above the law, because technically, Jonathan is above the law

We have to be realistic, Presidents have immunity that other government officials cannot enjoy. If you want EFCC to probe Jonathan, then EFCC must probe Obasanjo too

Magu has spoken well and correct;y, these two criminals must face the law, else the Nigerian laws would be abused if they get immunity.

It is a must for him to face the law because for him to have been shielded from arrest, then he is hiding some things

I though by now, President buhari would have waded into the situation and order Ita’s arrest.

Impunity, politics will always thrive in Nigeria, what nonsense is this that Dss will stop efcc from doing their job, it’s a national embarrassing moment

Don’t be embarrassed, Buhari on several occasions has made DSS bigger than EFCC, I’m only waiting for the time Buhari will instruct DSS to start doing the job of EFCC fully
