D'Tigers captain Diogu rues team's ouster from C'wealth Games

D’Tigers star Ike Diogu says he is excited about the new crop of promising players that have joined the Nigerian national basketball team.

Jordan Nwora, Ikena Iroegbu, Ikechukwu Nwamu, Bryant Mbamalu are some of the young players that joined the team recently, as they progressed to the Second Round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers.

Diogu, who is the skipper of the side, advised that the emerging talents be kept together, as they are the future of Nigerian basketball.

“I am excited about these guys because they are the future. We saw it last year in Tunisia,” Diogu told FIBA.com.

“Jordan, Ikena Iroegbu, Nwamu, Bryant, – all those guys are young. I hope those guys continue to stay together because they have a chance to be really good.

“Unfortunately, I am a bit older than those guys, I don’t get that long to play with them. But I know when I step down the future of Nigeria basketball is at excellent hands.”

D’Tigers have made it to the Second Round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers where they will face Group F opponents Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, the Central African Republic and Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian men will take on Central African Republic in September.
