Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, kept the flag flying in the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers as they sealed their third victory in three games on Sunday against host nation Mali.

Having defeated Uganda and Rwanda before now, the Alex Nwora-led team are leading the pack in Group B on six points after beating Mali 82-59 to end the first round of the qualifiers in style.

D’Tigers began with a wide margin of 21-5 against the Malians in the first quarter but finished the second 16-16 as the first half ended 37-21 points in their favour.

The third quarter ended 21-20 points as the Nigerian men won but did struggle to keep up with their hosts.

But efforts were doubled to ensure Nigeria dominated the last quarter which turned out 25-17 points to close the game at 82-59 against Mali.

With the three victories in a row, Nigeria will now go into the next round of qualifiers as group leaders with six points. The next round holds in June.
