D'Tigers face Mali after thumping Rwanda in FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria’s D’Tigers will face host nation Mali in their third Group B 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifying encounter on Sunday after sealing a thumping win against Rwanda on saturday.

The Nigerian senior men’s basketball team continued their impressive showing in the qualifiers with a 108-53 victory over Rwanda, having defeated Uganda 102-86 in their first game on Friday.

The Alex Nwora-led side began with a 31-13 lead against the Rwanda, who defeated host nation Mali 74-70 points in their opening game the previous day.

D’Tigers also won the second quarter by 24-15 points to end the first half 55-38, before winning the third period with 29-12 points and the last quarter 24-13 points, to end the game with108-53 points.

Shooting guard Michael Efevberha, Christopher Obekpa and Benjamin Uzor were stars of the game with impressive performances that led to the victory.

With the two victories so far, Nigeria have recorded four points in the tournament, and will face hosts Mali as they continue their race to secure the 2019 FIBA World Cup ticket.
