Nigeria’s quest to defend the basketball gold title at the All Africa Games in Congo suffered a huge blow Wednesday night as the D’Tigers lost narrowly to Egypt in the semifinal.
The Nigerian team which is dominated by home-based players lost 60-61 to Egypt and won’t have the opportunity to defend the title they won at the 2011 edition in Maputo, Mozambique.
Egypt will battle Angola in the final of the male basketball event.
In athletics, Osazuwa Uhunoma won a gold medal after winning the Heptathlon with 5892 points.

Also Chinazom Amadi leaped 6.31 metres to win gold in the women long jump event as Commonwealth and African Long Jump champion, Ese Brume, finished fifth with a 6.24 metre jump.
Claire Uke also won gold in the women discus throwing 54.24 metres.
Meanwhile, the trio of Obinna Metu, Divine Oduduru and Tega Odele qualified for the final of the men 200m race slated for Thursday.
Similarly, Lawrette Ozoh and Onwumere Ngozi qualified for the 200m women final while Regina George was absent during her race.
