Eagles draw goalless with Mali in WAFU Cup group opener

The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations group games with a goalless draw against Mali at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana on Thursday.

The Salisu Yusuf’s men defeated Serra Leone 2-0 in the first round on Monday night to make it to the group stages..

Nigeria, who were grouped alongside Guinea, Ghana and Mali in Group A of the West African Football Union tournament, faced an equally tough side in the group opener and thus found it difficult to score.

The draw means both teams now have one point each, as Nigeria will look forward to a better performance in their second group game.

The group’s other game saw hosts Ghana assume top of the Group A after beating Guinea 2-0 later on Thursday.

Nigeria’s next game comes up on Saturday, September 16 against Guinea at the same venue in Cape Town, Ghana.
