Eagles maintain 51st spot in FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, have maintained the 51st spot in the FIFA/ Coca-Cola World Rankings, according to the January edition released on Thursday.

The team, which ended 2017 as the ninth best team in Africa, also retained the continental spot, sitting behind Tunisia (23), Senegal (24), Egypt (30), Morocco (39), DR Congo (43), Burkina Faso (44) and Cameroon (45) and Ghana (50).

From the data, Tunisia leaped from 27th spot last month to 23rd, as they become the highest ranked team in the continent. Morocco also leaped one place to overtake Congo who dropped four places.

Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D foes, Argentina were non movers as they remain fourth in he world. But Croatia moved up two places to sit on 15th, as well as Iceland who occupy the 20th position.

Meanwhile, the top 5 ranked countries in the world are Germany – at the summit – Brazil , Portugal, Argentina and Belgium in that order.

In sixth spot is Spain, Poland are seventh, Switzerland, eight, France, ninth and Chile on 10th.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 15 February 2018.
