Eagles not ready yet for CHAN, says Oliseh

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, says the 1-1 draw against Angola shows the team is not ready yet for the 2016 African Nations Championship billed to kick off on January 16 in Kigali, Rwanda.

An 84th minute penalty goal by Ikechukwu Ibenegbu gave Nigeria the lead.

Ibrahim Salawu was fouled inside the box and Ibenegbu stepped forward to convert the penalty.

However, Angola drew level with a header off a corner kick two minutes from time.

Speaking after the match, Oliseh expressed optimism of a better display when they battle Cote d’Ivoire in another warm-up match on Monday in Pretoria, South Africa.

“I am happy with the way they played, but we’re not yet ready for CHAN,” he said.

He added that, “We played the game without strikers because our two top strikers (Tunde Adeneji and Chisom Chikatara) are injured and we also have to get used to the high altitude.”

The Eagles are expected to observe a rest day on Friday before they resume training in Pretoria the following day.

The Eagles, who earlier defeated PSL side University of Pretoria 3-0 in a test game on Tuesday, will play a second warm-up match against Cote d’Ivoire on January 11 before they fly out to Rwanda.

Nigeria finished third on their CHAN debut two years ago.
