The Super Eagles of Nigeria are just few points away from cementing their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after securing a comfortable victory against Cameroon.

The game, which saw Nigerian stars shine so bright at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday evening, is Eagles’ third consecutive win in the qualifying series.

Team captain, Mikel Obi, and forward, Odion Ighalo, who are plying their trade in the Chinese Super League, showed superb understanding between themselves upfront as they inspired a first half silencing of the Lions.

Ighalo got Nigeria ahead 29 minutes into the game when he finished a cross from Mikel, after beating a Cameroonian defender to net a clean shot.

Mikel then doubled the lead when he slotted in from Victor Moses’ corner kick just one minute before half-time.

The goals continued to come in favour of the Eagles as Victor Moses finished off a brilliant touch pass with Moses Simon in the 59th minute to make it 3-0.

Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho then wrapped the 4-0 victory up when he easily netted a cross from midfielder Onazi in the 76th minute of play.

The Indomitable Lions came out strong from the start of the first and second half, and put up a lot of efforts but just couldn’t stop the Eagles from flying.

The victory takes Nigeria, who are now unbeaten in 33 World Cup qualifying matches, to 9 points from three matches, extending their lead at the top of Group B.

The journey to Russia is however still open as the Eagles will travel to Yaounde in four days’ time for the reverse fixture against the Cameroonians.
