Echiejile, Osaguna, Eseti in transfer deadline move

As the European Transfer windows closed on Wednesday August 31, top Nigerian players also joined in the transfer move with the likes of Elderson Echiejile and Christian Osaguona topping the list.

28-year-old left back defender Elderson Echiejile moved on loan to Belgian side Standard Liege from French side AS Monaco on a one-year loan deal with an option to make it permanent after the deal expires.

Echiejile, who has 50 caps for Nigeria, is away on international duty with the Super Eagles and will link up with his new team after the international break.

The left back has played for Rennes in France and Braga in Portugal since his move to Europe in 2007.

Also, Belgian Pro League team, KV Mechelen completed the signing of Nigerian forward Christian Osaguona in a move pending FIFA confirmation.

Christian Osaguona has signed a one-year deal with KV Mechelen. The Nigerian striker joins the Belgian side from Raja Casablanca.

Osaguona broke his contract with Raja Casablanca claiming unpaid wages. His transfer to KV Mechelen thus waits on approval by FIFA.

His new club had stated that it’s doing “everything necessary” to clear the issue but it will still be several weeks before Osaguona is eligible to play.

Similarly, Belgian club KAA Gent signed up a third Nigeria star, Anderson Esiti, on a four-year contract.

Midfielder Esiti has joined from Portuguese club Estoril and he links up with compatriots Moses Simon and Rabiu Ibrahim.

Also, Nigeria U23 international Nathan Oduwa has joined League One side Peterborough United on loan until January, Tottenham Hotspur have announced via their official website.

The 20-year-old previously had loan spells with Luton Town, Glasgow Rangers and Colchester United.

He trained with the Dream Team VI at the end of last season and went on to represent the team at the Suwon Invitational Tournament in South Korea.
