Nigeria @ 56: Clueless, visionless APC has brought many woes, PDP says

The chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has called for the immediate arrest of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and factional Edo state governorship candidate, Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.

He said the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, should without delay order the arrest and prosecution of Sheriff and his factional candidate for contempt having disobeyed a court Judgment.

The call is coming after Sheriff issued Iduoriyekemwen with a Certificate as the governorship candidate of the PDP for the coming September governorship election in Edo.

In a statement made available by the party’s spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye Makarfi expressed shock at the attitude of Sheriff who he said “has become an authority in the country with flagrant disobedience of the Nigerian
Constitution, the Electoral Act and the PDP constitution without being arrested or detained by security agencies. Is he above the law, if we may ask?”

Makarfi noted that Justice Abdullah Mohammed Liman’s Judgment of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt on July 4, 2016 was superior to all other court rulings, ex-parte orders or Interlocutory injunctions obtained by Sheriff and his followers.

According to him, the reliance of Sheriff on Justice Okon Abang’s ruling of Thursday, June 30, 2016 was nothing but a calculated means of confusing members of the public as he has done in time past.

“We are calling on the Police to do the needful by arresting Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, his co-travellers and Iduoriyekemwen for disobeying Court Judgment.”

However, speaking through the national secretary of his faction, Professor Wale Oladipo, Sheriff said Makarfi was asking for the impossible.

“It is wishful thinking of the group, but it won’t happen. They know that we have court orders that say our candidates should be accepted by the INEC. Whatever they are saying, they should wait for the Court of Appeal to decide. Without that, they are wasting their time. I only wish that they are not out to destroy the party”, he said.
