The chances of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerging next governor of Edo State received a boost on Wednesday with the defection of hundreds of Social Democratic Party (SDP) members, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP received the SDP members at a campaign rally held at Royal Block Courtyard at Auchi in Etsako West local government area of the state.

The leader of SDP in Edo, a former National Assembly member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Mr Abubakar Momoh led other members of the party to join PDP.

He said that Edo will fare better if the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu emerges the state governor.

According to him, “We decided to join the PDP because it has a candidate that will help Edo State get out of where it is today which is not comfortable, that candidate is a person who I believe will help Edo to move forward.

“If he becomes the governor of Edo state, he is a man I honestly believe is the right person for the job. Why I think he is the right man is because he is a man of truth; he will not make empty promises,” Momoh said disclosing why he, elders and other members of the SDP decided to join the PDP.

Momoh said as a onetime PDP member, who benefited from the party platform to serve as a two-term state lawmaker and as a federal lawmaker, that he knew Pastor Ize-Iyamu since 1987, assuring that he is a candidate Edo people can trust.

Chief Dan Orbih, Edo PDP Chairman, receiving the new comers promised them of equal status with existing members of the party. He asked them to work hard along other members of the PDP to deliver Ize-Iyamu as governor.

The state governorship election will hold on September 10.
