Edo PDP to boycott LG polls, says results have been compiled before elections

Health workers in the frontline of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in Edo State are to start enjoying jumbo hazard allowances ranging from N90,000 to N300,000, Governor Godwin Obaseki said on Friday.

Obaseki disclosed this at a meeting with labour union leaders in the state as part of activities to mark the International Labour Day at the Government House, Benin.

He said: “The Edo State Government has trained over 4,200 health-care workers in the state. We have also approved life insurance and special allowances for them. The allowances range from N90,000 to N300,000 depending on their cadre in the service.”

In another development, the Edo State Government on Friday received 14 tricycle ambulances equipped with other essential equipment to facilitate quick emergency response.

While receiving the tricycles from the Federal Government, Obaseki, thanked the Office of Sustainable Development Goals in the Presidency for the gesture, which he said was the third in the series of donations to the state.

He said: “This donation will help to complement what we have done in the health-care sector in Edo State, especially in the primary health-care system. This donation is important to us because it goes into the heart of our health-care reform in the state as it will help us to strengthen the system.

“The primary health-care system is the base on which the state’s health-care system rests. We have taken time to invest in our primary health-care system as the health of our people is important to us; hence, we are doing all within our reach to ensure our people are fine”.

The focal person, SDGs Office, Edo State, Mrs Ifueko Alufohai, said the donation of the tricycle ambulances was meant to cater for quick emergency response needed to save more lives in the rural communities.
