Edo Dep. Gov denies contracting herbalists to kill Oshiomhole

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu, has denied contacting native doctors to kill his boss, Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The Deputy Governor made the denial on Monday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, saying that the allegation was being fuelled by mischief makers and blackmailers who are bent on destroying his cordial relationship with the governor.

Odubu equally raised the raised alarm that some people are bent on destroying his image and worsen the crisis between him and the Governor by circulating offensive fliers in Benin.

Odubu’s statement reads in part: “As a devout Catholic, I will not do anything that is unbecoming of a true Christian in the name of politics. God knows that I never had any pact with any witch/native doctor to kill anyone or avenge for me and I will never condescend to that extent as long as God lives. It is against my faith.

“The Bible teaches that even when the innocent suffers and mischief makers and traducers appear to triumph in their blackmail, it is for God alone to avenge. I will, by the special grace of God, continue to disappoint the dubious expectations of those who are bent on driving a wedge between me and the governor. It is my nature and character to be loyal to those who God has set over me because they are His instruments.

“At times like this, blackmailers are at their best but I have decided to take solace in God who knows the hearts of men, trusting and believing as always that God will vindicate the just. I wish to reiterate that I have no rift with the governor, who I revere and deeply appreciate.”

It would be recalled that Oshiomhole and his deputy have been trading blames over assassination plots, with the Governor saying he was told that Odubu had contracted native doctors to kill him. The crisis between the two leaders is not unconnected with who takes over from Oshiomhole after the expiration of his second tenure latter in the year.

Reports say Odubu had complained to state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that the Governor had side-lined him in the running of the affairs of the state and that his office has stopped been funded by the Governor.
