The Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, said on Saturday next weekend’s governorship election in Edo State would be a test of the nation’s democracy.

Damagum stated this during the grand finale of the party’s campaign rally in Benin City.

He urged security agencies to ensure professionalism and uphold justice during and after the election.

He said: “From our campaign trains, the people of Edo have accepted our candidate.

“I want to use this opportunity to tell our security agencies that you are paid with taxpayers’ money.

“You must uphold the values for which you were created.”

The Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo Election, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, warned against compromising the electoral process.

He urged the people to come out en masse and vote on September 21.

He noted that “Edo is known as the cradle of civilisation and intellect that must not settle for anything less.”

Fintiri noted that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, had done his best for the state and left a landmark in terms of human capital development.

Obaseki, in his remarks, described the governorship election as “an existential threat.”

He said: “With all the achievements the PDP administration has recorded in Edo, we do not want to go back.”
